GUA SHA…what is it? (and…how do I pronounce it?)
I have always been fascinated with not only how skin works, but how the body as a whole works. It is all connected. What goes in, comes out. Your back can hurt but it is your hips that need work. Your diet (or lack thereof) comes out through your skin…. it is all the same machine, just with many different yet connected parts. This led me to looking for modalities and treatments that not only help the skin, but also connective parts that further enhance your skin and its health.
I discovered Gua Sha (pronounced: “Gwah Shah”) while doing research before opening in 2017. It appealed to me on many levels: holistic, relaxing, recuperative, stress relief and of course, beautification. I dabbled in it but knew I needed further training and finally in late 2019 I was able to take a three-day intensive class with a widely regarded trainer in this, Cecily Bradenton with CJB Beauty Secrets. I had planned to launch in early 2020 but…2020. I feel now more than ever is a good time for my clients to experience all the benefits.
While traditional Gua Sha is mostly done on the body utilizing a jade or gemstone board (or roller) to scrape or rub (Gua) to release stagnation and bring flow to the surface of the skin (Sha), to do such on the face is not ideal as bruising could occur. Cecily developed the GUA SHA FUSION FACIAL which incorporates all the benefits of traditional Gua Sha in a facial treatment that helps to provide immediate, relaxing, and invigorating results.
Simply put: RELAX | FLOW | GLOW
How it works:
Utilizing gentle, relaxing movements with the assistance of a gemstone board or roller, we start with your neck and shoulders to “open” the flow and from there continue working up the neck and face, focusing on areas of tension, stagnation, puffiness or concern. (RELAX)
This in turn helps to repattern the way our skin ages by softening deep seated facial expressions (wrinkled brow, clenched jaw, pursed lips to name a few) that impede the flow of nutrition and ultimately, the production of collagen and elastin. By relaxing tension, we encourage the skin to “settle” and in turn, function more efficiently. (FLOW)
Upon completion, skin has less inflammation, more vitality and tone and feels overall relaxed and bright. (GLOW)
The above is the core of the Facial Fusion Treatment. It also includes cleansing, exfoliation, mask, massage and hydration/spf using organic, natural and delicious-smelling products in the full fusion treatment. An option of adding in an herbal poultice for further massage is also available.
The Gua Sha Fusion Treatments are available as follows:
And if you are not ready to venture out just yet, there is something for you too! A homecare kit which will include a gemstone, an oil sampler duo from Samaya Organics, instruction card for a simple home regimen and invite to an online tutorial. Home Care Kit + Online Tutorial: $50-$75, depending on gemstone chosen
While I have focused in large part on clinical treatments since opening L. Moore Aesthetics, I am SO excited to be bringing this treatment in. I know how amazing my skin felt and looked while I received treatments in training and my clients who have experienced this reported feeling less pain/headaches, more glow and overall improved skin tone and relaxation. Rave reviews all around!
